COVID-19 infection still is new disease and many researches are going on to solve the puzzle of this infection; COVID-19 outbreak has been quite the motivator for building up a strong immune system.
New findings have confirmed the efficacy of multiple supplements to help the immune system fight with COVID-19.
Vitamin D affects on particular white blood cells which are responsible to fight with viruses and bacteria. Monocytes and Macrophages are White blood cells and soldiers of Defence mechanism of the body. Vitamin D enhance their performance to fight against infection and inflammation in the body. This vitamin is mandatory for all kids.
Another essential supplement for immune system function is ZINC. Zinc is a mineral that plays a critical role in fight against inflammation and infections. Insufficiency of Zinc in kids not only weakens their immune system against infections, but also restrict childhood growth. Vitamin C is another supplement that has shown a lot of effects on immune system. This water soluble vitamin reduce the duration and severity of upper respiratory infections.
Selenium is a mineral with an important role to enhance immune response and as an antioxidant supplement, reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the cells.
On April-May 2020 while COVID-19 infection resulted in a lot of death in Italy, Germany reported less death rate due to COVID-19 infection while the reported cases were high. Studies revealed that the Selenium insufficiency in COVID-19 patients resulted in more death and more sever infections and admissions in Intensive care units. As per study, food sources in Germany contains more Selenium which reduces the severity and fatality of SARS- Cov infection. Selenium inhibits entrance of viruses to the healthy cells and suppress infection.
Nuts, beans, meat, fish and eggs are natural sources of Selenium.
Most of Paediatric Multivitamins contains Selenium.
